Booking Accomodation
FINDING ACCOMMODATION – see LINKS below!
Apart from deciding on where to go, this is the fun part of planning a trip – where you stay or want to stay really depends on your budget and how long you wish to stay.
The options are endless – you might be looking for a Hotel or B&B, Air BnB, Villa Rental, take part in Home Exchange Programs or Go for an All Inclusive Package where your Accomodation is all organized.
If you spot a deal at a Hotel where you want to stay, “sometimes” you can get a better deal by booking with them directly, so I’d advise checking their site as well.
Booking.com – Always my starting point in looking for accommodation ..Great and extensive data base for a variety of accommodation options worldwide ..as they say – from cosy country homes to funky city flats, oh and even family run B&B’s. Off season deals worth taking a look at.
AirBNB.com – Initially just connected you to people who have rooms, apartments and homes to rent, but now offer much more incl tours, workshops etc..Often great deals and you get more of a local experience in many instances – and generally they are cheaper than hotels often with awesome deals in non peak seasons.
Hostelworld – Great for Young & Young At Heart … budget conscious travelers – accurate ratings and reviews from real users – many places offer single rooms.
HostelPass – FANTASTIC Fairly New Service… Digital Card – Pay £1999 for a yearly subscription and get up to 40% discount at Hostels all over Europe, even on Private rooms. More and more Hostels are signing up every month. You also get Discounts on a range of Experiences and Tours as well as Transport, Museums etc.
VRBO – Similar to AirBnB but more focus on private homes, villas, condos and apartments.
Hotel Tonight – Specializes in selling off Same Day Hotel Reservations, offering great last minute discounts. You can book in advance but best deals are same day ones. So if youre stuck for the night somewhere- this is your go to App
Agoda.com – Haven’t tried it but word has it – EXCELLENT for accommodation options in ASIA.
Expedia.com – Grand daddy of the Accommodation sites – they own Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotels .com, Hotwire and last I heard have over a 60% stake of Trivago.
Travelocity – Flights, hotels, cars, cruises and Great for Full Vacation Packages – owned by Expedia.
Hotwire.com – Also owned by Expedia – with their HOT DEALS they hide Hotel Names until youve booked ..even though they show you pics of 3 places letting you know its one of the 3, I personally want to know the exact place ill be staying at before I book – esp if its a city I’m unfamiliar with.
Trivago – Apparently the worlds largest online Hotel search site – I like their Trivago Magazine to get ideas …ie articles like 10 best family resorts in Mexico etc so worth checking out.
Hotels.com – Worth a try. Hotels and some B&B’s. Reward points – collect 10 nights get one free etc.
TrustedHousesitters – This is based on purchasing an Annual Members plan. I personally have not tried this but have come across people who have signed up and like it esp if they have pets they don’t want to board, and would prefer a house sitter.
